30-Day Blogging Challenge: Day 1 (Favorite Song)

Alright! Let’s do this! I recently signed up for a 30-day challenge to put myself more in writing. So here it goes:

Day 1 – A favorite song

For a first, this is difficult! It’s like asking a parent to choose his/her favorite child.

I love music. I think most of us do. I love the way words are put in such a way that makes me feel like the singer is directly talking to me. May it be in a happy, jumpy beat that makes me want to dance, or in a melancholic tune which makes me weep even from the prelude, I appreciate songs. I adore those song writers who can make words and melody come together in a beautiful rhythm.

If asked about my favorite song, it would take me a while to answer it. For one, I love music as I have confessed. There are lots of song titles swimming in my mind, like a ball in lottery wishing to be chosen. Therefore, I’d just think of a song that I extremely like which has a great impact on me.

Still, it is not that easy. Like finding a needle in a haystack, I searched for that specific top song, but arrived in four instead. Well, I guess these will do. I will categorize each and explain why they are my favoriteSSS.

1. All time favorite: Remember Me This Way by Jordan Hill

I think I first heard this song from the movie, “Casper the Friendly Ghost” when I was young. From then, this song holds a special place in my heart. The song is actually about friendship and it was immediately imbued in my young mind that this is one of the things that I must carefully seek and treasure in my life.

Call me cheesy, but there couldn’t be any other song that is more apt than this in the scene where Casper danced with Kat. It made my eyes water every time I watch this part. I guess it is because deep down, we are all like Casper. We wanted others to accept us the way we are, flaws and all. We don’t want to be treated differently. Instead, we want to have people who will always stay in our side no matter what.

2. Classical: Minuet in F by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

Some of my friends and colleagues tease me of being an “old” person since I have a taste for classical music. I don’t know, I just appreciate this type of music. It’s calm and peaceful.

I love minuet. Oh, look at the dress, too!

I like many minuets, but nothing compared to Mozart’s Minuet in F. I can always imagine myself dancing in this French social dance while attending a diplomatic ball. Oh, my dream of being in a Foreign Service post. Haha!

3. Instrumental: River Flows in You by Yiruma

my lullaby

I super love this song. Played by Yiruma, a renowned Korean pianist, this wonderful piece became popular during the height of the first twilight movie. Many twifans wanted this to be the “Bella’s Lullaby”, but Carter Burwell’s won the bid.

However, I didn’t know this at the time. A friend recommended this to me, and I gave it a try. I didn’t expect it would be that amazing! Even without vocal sounds, the song is so moving and breath-taking that I could feel the pianist’s emotions. Starting from that day, it became one of my favorite songs. Incidentally, it also became my preferred lullaby.

4. Korean: Nothing Better by Brown Eyed Soul

“Nothing Better” than this song

This song has a long history for being my favorite Korean ballad. When I first listened to the song, I admit that of course, I didn’t understand its meaning. However, the melody is there. Even if the artist is singing in a foreign language, I can feel the song’s sincerity. For more of this song, I have posted a blog about it and you may check it here.

So there, I made my first day challenge. Hooray!

How about you? What’s your favorite song?

  1. You’re absolutely right about this being a very tough one! I’m not able to choose a favourite song. Also, these things shift all the time, according to in what mood I am and what I feel like at the moment. I think I have two thousand favourite songs, so well done you for being able to pick just four! 🙂

    1. You put in words what my feelings are, exactly. My favorite song depends on my mood, too. It was a very difficult thing to choose one’s favorite song. I’m not sure if mine will beat your two thousand, but I have plenty, too! What genre do you often like to listen?

      1. 🙂 That’s another hard one! Changes with mood, with season, what time of day, if it’s live or on record… I like folk, reggae, ska, blues, “world music”, singer/songwriter, happy, sad, deep, shallow, fun, quiet… I really can’t say!

  2. wow… reading through the challenges from 1 to the end… as I’m new to blogging guess I’d try it too… and yes my favorite songs change as my mood changes…

Share your thoughts, I would love to read them!
