After my trip to Japan, spring has been my favorite time of the year. I just love to see nature filled with greens and colorful flowers. Residing in a tropical country makes it not easy to witness such a beautiful season and time and financial availability are not always there. Even though “hanami” or cherry blossoms viewing is worth it, sometimes it is not so practical to just fly to Japan every year and experience this.
Luckily, one of the largest milk tea stores in the Philippines, Tokyo Bubble Tea, brings the feeling of spring and cherry blossoms here in the Philippines. It has recently come up with its Sakura Menu to celebrate the season. Three designed bento trays and three new milk tea flavors have been added to its already wide array of food and drinks selection just for this very special occasion.
I have often passed by Tokyo Bubble Tea’s branch along Katipunan extension, but haven’t been inside. Since it is the nearest from where I live, O and I decided to try their newest menu there. Both busy from our work and studies, we only have free time during the night and this milk tea restaurant earned an easy plus points to me as it is regularly open until midnight. How convenient for us!

Sakura JCC Milk Teas
First, we were served with these seasonal milk teas. I got Sakura Royal Milk Tea while Oliver got Sakura Strawberry Milk Tea. There is another variant called Sakura Taro Milk Tea that we have yet to try.

Sakura Strawberry Milk Tea
JCC stands for Japanese Cream Cheese added as sweet and smooth toppings that create a unique taste and texture for these new variants. I ordered mine with 50% sugar and I liked how perfect the sweetness as it was not that overpowering. I always get the safe original tea and I did not regret my choice. O wasn’t as happy. He liked his Strawberry Milk but complained that it tasted a bit strong and artificial.
Sakura Bento Trays
We were halfway through our drinks when our food was served. We selected two from three Tokyo Bubble Tea’s Sakura Bento Trays which all come with a miso soup, fried rice, main course, sakura salad, and sakura maki. The three menus are chicken katsu, ebi furai with hamburg steak, and soy ginger fish.
Sakura Ebi Fry with Hamburg Steak
A fan of shrimps, I chose to try Sakura Ebi Furai with Hamburg Steak (PHP 388). This comes in two pieces of ebi fry and a generous beef patty. The shrimps were delicious though smaller than what I normally have. The tartar dip complimented the ebi furai well. For the hamburg steak, I like how it tasted though it could have been cooked better for my preference. Maybe I should have requested it to be done medium well. My fault. Good thing it was drizzled with gravy and caramelized onions, making the taste better. The entire bento tray wasn’t bad at all though. The Sakura Maki had become my new favorite! The Sakura Fried Rice was also a winner.
Sakura Chicken Katsu
Oliver liked his Sakura Chicken Katsu (PHP 368) and his only complain was the serving size – it was too big for him. He doesn’t eat much (hehe). I had a bite of the chicken and I agree it was flavorful.
Honeybon Sakura Mango Roll
To top our spring experience in Manila, we were given a slice each of Honeybon’s Sakura Mango Roll. Honeybon is Tokyo Bubble Tea’s pastry sister company and has also joined the spring season with its limited edition cherry blossom-inspired cake.
Oliver loves sweets and he told me that he prefers the subtle sweetness and softness of this cake. The mangoes work well with the sakura and there wasn’t any sour taste like some cakes we tried before.
Sakura Mango Roll
This is something that he cannot easily get bored of eating. He even wanted to order an additional slice!
Tokyo Bubble Tea Sakura menu is available for a limited time starting April 15, 2015. We have learned that when you go to any of its branches and avail any bento tray with Sakura JCC milk tea, you will get to pick a prize from the Sakura Tree and win exclusive merchandise like the Bubblets!
We are both happy to have experienced the sakura season without leaving the country.
Thank you, Tokyo Bubble Tea!
