Aristotle once said that good habits formed at youth make all the difference. I certainly agree with this philosopher as I also believe that teens, who are currently having their own physical, emotional, and mental battle, can make the future better once they are educated and trained well. Last Friday, I attended #TeenWeekPH 2014 at SMX Convention Center Hall 2 in SM Aura Premier and was able to witness the joy and power of being a teen and how reminiscent it was to my teenage years. Now on its second year, it delivered its promises to be even bigger and more exciting as it powers up future-ready teens to 250 schools across the Philippines.
For everyone’s benefit, let me give you a quick background of #TeenWeekPH. This movement was created to empower Filipino teens to aim high and be future-ready by educating and motivating them on the value of hygiene and personal care, self-esteem, confidence, and friendship. It was first launched last 2013 and since then it became the biggest teen event of the year.
When I arrived at the venue, I immediately felt a sudden change of vibe – it felt like I was teleported a few years back when the world was simply bright, colourful, and very much energetic. Being in my early 20s now, I wasn’t that far gone, but there’s really something so optimistic, lively, and innocent in being a teen.
Teen influencers taking their oath
#TeenWeekPH 2014 was attended by key youth leaders and influencers such as Nicole Anderson, Manolo Pedrosa, Slater Young, Elmo Magalona, Kryz Uy, Laureen Uy, Tricia Gosingtian, Patricia Prieto, and Verniece Enciso, along with PBB teen stars and winners of Binibining Pilipinas this year.
Because she is very popular among the teens, Yeng Constantino graced the event with her well-known songs. The young audience squealed and screamed their admiration as they sang along with their pink-haired idol.
The entire place was filled by several booths for the #TeenWeekPH fair. Each booth represents an inspirational day of the week and has activities for the teens. To start, #MoveUpMonday aims to produce proud Filipino teens who underwent and survived the challenges in transforming into an adolescent. #TransformTuesday is basically for beauty and self-esteem while #WorkItWednesday is on confidence building and talent honing.

#ThinkBigThursday helps in realizing passions and dreams while encouraging teens to pursue and achieve them. Last, #FutureFriday is about creating lasting friendships and relationships during the teenage years and believing that these can last a lifetime.

Truly, the teen spirit is a strong force that when mold in the right way could create confident, responsible, and skilled citizens. By educating young people to have proper habits for their success, #TeenWeekPH is seen effectively programming Filipino youth development. I highly commend this movement which believes in Dr. Jose Rizal’s word that the youth is the hope of our future. It is just right that we must invest in them!
